Kerala State Labour Policy to Provide Social Security to All Workers

The cabinet meeting held under the chairmanship of chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan, gave the nod to the Kerala State Labour Policy, which aims at making the state more employee-friendly and strives to provide social security and adequate wages to all workers. Further, the policy envisages rigorous action against the bad practices that exist in the private sector. It also aims to strengthen employer-employee relationship to prevent labour disputes and also to create a labour pool to protect jobs and interests of domestic labourers, among other major recommendations of the policy. The policy also wants to discourage flash strikes in the state and end the practice of extracting wages without doing any work.

The state labour department's enforcement wing would regularly supervise to improve service conditions, wages and other benefits of employees working in shops and other commercial establishments. Also, the policy has encouraged women-friendly measures, so that women employees get all benefits as per law.
