NEBOSH Has a Huge Range of Internationally Recognised Qualifications for People at All Stages of Their Career
NEBOSH will be exhibiting at OSH India in Mumbai this November. OSH e-Connect spoke to Ian Taylor, NEBOSH Chief Executive, ahead of the event to discuss some of the qualifications that delegates can expect to discover from Stand B60.
In September, NEBOSH unveiled its new-look General Certificate. What’s changed?
The General Certificate is our most popular qualification – about 300,000 people hold a National or International one. The International General Certificate – or IGC as it’s commonly known – is hugely popular in India. All our qualifications undergo regular redevelopment to make sure they’re up-to-date with the very best practice - ISO 45001, for example, launched last year and the General Certificate follows this framework.
We’ve put a real emphasis on knowing AND doing so that people not only gain new skills but can practice them too. For example we now have just one exam – to assess what people do know – but have extended the practical element. It’s now a risk assessment that our learners do in their own workplace – making sure they have the practical application too.
Why has NEBOSH introduced a greater focus on risk assessment?
We spoke to nearly 4,000 stakeholders to find out what they needed in the General Certificate. They said they wanted to see more practical application of risk assessment. We listened and that’s why the practical assessment has been developed to focus on this skill. As risk assessment underpins much health and safety practice it’s a key skill that learners will find useful in their day-to-day lives.
What other qualifications or training does NEBOSH offer that could help worker safety?
We’ve just launched a brand new course called Safety Simplified. This is a three-day introductory course that’s suitable for workers at all levels of an organisation. By upskilling all workers in safety we believe that it could help reduce incident and injury rates by giving everyone greater health and safety awareness.
We’ve used the very latest augmented reality (AR) technology in the course to demonstrate eight common safety scenarios. This AR will really help learners to visualise what they are learning. Of course, NEBOSH has a huge range of internationally recognised qualifications for people at all stages of their career. In addition to the General Certificate, the NEBOSH International Diploma is popular for professionals wishing to progress their studies even further. And for people who want to add more specific skills there are qualifications in leadership, process safety management, incident investigation to name a few. Visitors to OSH India are welcome to visit us on Stand B60 to discuss what qualification is right for them.
