We spoke to Lalit Aggarwal, Managing Partner, Reflectosafe to understand the current OSH scenario in India and to find out how it compares to global standards, their latest range of devices to ensure worker safety and new products and solutions expected in future. 

1.       What are your views on the current OSH scenario in India and how does it compare to global standards?

OSH scenario in India is still in its developing stage , we need to develop standards or guidelines for selection of right PPE according to work environments and threats . Safety awareness should be taught in the schools making them adopt the same in their behaviour . Strict laws should be implemented by the government at workplaces with heavy penalties to the employer on non-conformance.

2.       Please tell us about your latest range of devices to ensure worker safety in treacherous working environs

Our latest offering is mainly focussed for 2 wheelers / Motor-bikers, they are most vulnerable to accidents, due to low visibility on Indian roads. 

a)  Bag belts / rucksack cover - We have developed Reflective bag belts , they are mounted on to the bag , fabrics are high visible fluorescent colour which will be visible in the day time and reflectives will reflect in the night time. Using them will make the rider visible to and safe from other vehicles. 

b) Elastic reflective belts - These are made of elastic and are completely adjustable for height and waist and can also cover the shoulder bags, its conspicutiness will create contrast visibility during day and night. 

Reflective spokes - Made of ABS material, coated with Reflective glassbeads can fit into the bike spokes and will create additional visibility in the night. 

Helmet stickers - since its safe and mandatory for every rider to wear helmet, reflective stickers will make the rider visible in the night and keep them safe. 

3.       What are the new products and solutions to be expected in the near future?

  a )High visibility reflective work wear : Very soon we will offer our new range of high visible work wear confirming to Indian standards , which will make the wearer conspicuous to oncoming traffic day and night. These work wear will feature 3M Scotchlite reflective technology. 

  b) High visible reflective T shirts featuring Kooltex technology which will absorb the sweat and shall provide comfort and visibility. SAFE, STYLE and COMFORT in true sense. 

4.       What are your views on UBM’s OSH India show and the role played by it in connecting the OSH community on one platform?

OSH INDIA is the only platform which is exclusively focussed on Occupation health and safety arena , which covers new developments in health and safety , unlike other exhibitions which cover fire safety , security automation etc. . This focus was much needed as still there is a lot awareness needed in many areas in India, lack of information has led to accidents and near fatality situations. UBM is in line with practices similar to developed countries and their experience will help the safety industry and professionals to understand best safety practises to be adopted in the time to come.
