We are coming up with workwear for various industries in near future
We spoke to Mohammad Nehal Azmat from Allied Leather Finishers Pvt. Ltd. to understand their organization’s products for different industries, the current trends in PPE in developed countries and how India can learn from them, the difference in the quality of their products from competition and new products they plan to launch in future.
1.Please tell us about your organization and PPE products for different industry verticals.
Allied Leather Finishers Pvt. Ltd. produces finished leather, cut components and finished shoe and boot uppers for industrial safety shoes. ALF started early as one of the first few leather industries in Kanpur- the place which is now a globally known center for leather and allied industries. Since then ALF has kept pace with advancements in technology, market competition and quality awareness. ALF belongs to the era of second world war when it was established as a trading company dealing in raw hides. This activity continued till the year 1966 when we set up our own leather tannery at Jajmau, Kanpur.
It has always been our endeavour to maintain quality - both in our management as well as in our products. As a result of these efforts, we have been successfully accredited by internationally known organizations, ISO and CTC.
Quality in Management - ISO 9002
ISO 9002 Certificate from DNV, Netherlands for quality in our management.
Quality in Product - CTC Certification
Our product are manufactured with utmost control over their quality. Our products have been successfully tested at CTC, France.
Quality
An ISO 9002 certified company. The company is first in India to be certified ISO 9002 for both units i.e. leather finishing unit at Unnao & shoe upper unit at Jajmau, Kanpur. The company is also a Government recognised export house.
Our products include safety shoes, safety gloves and industrial masks as well. Our shoes are certified by BIS as well as EU standards. Our gloves are Cut-level 1, 3 and 5 with all three types being certified as per EU norms. Our masks are FSP 2 certified which is equivalent to N95 masks.
2.What are the current trends in PPE in the developed countries and how Indian industry can learn from them?
The current trends that we have noticed in Middle East and Europe are that safety shoes are generally preferred in the S3 category as opposed to Indian market where we most people are only interested in S1 category of shoes. S3 shoes provide much better protection as they have steel mid plates, S1 shoes contain only steel toe caps.
3.What sets your products apart from competition?
I think what sets our products apart is the backward integration of our safety shoes. We procure raw hide directly from the source and then process it in our own tannery before the leather is used in making safety shoes. This ensures quality control of the highest order. We used one of the widest toecaps which provides an extra level of comfort.
4.Any new or innovative products that you plan to launch in the near future?
We are coming up with workwear in the near future. These would be for large industries such as manufacturing, chemical, pharmaceuticals, etc.
