National Safety Day – A Background

National Safety Day was first observed in 1972 on the foundation day of the National Safety Council. The National Safety Council is a tripartite apex body at the national level that is non-profit and self-financing.

History

National Safety Day's roots trace back to 1966, marking the establishment of the National Safety Council of India (NSC) by the Ministry of Labour. The council's primary objective is to advocate for national security, public health, and environmental protection.

SIGNIFICANCE OF NATIONAL SAFETY DAY:

This day holds immense importance as it:

Raises awareness: It educates the public about various safety measures, including workplace safety, road safety, fire safety, and home safety.

Promotes safe practices: It encourages individuals and organisations to adopt and implement safety protocols in their daily routines and work environments.

Reduces accidents and injuries: By emphasising safety, National Safety Day aims to minimise the number of accidents and injuries that occur due to negligence or lack of awareness.

Fosters a culture of safety: The day strives to create a societal mindset that prioritises safety and well-being, leading to a safer and healthier environment for all.

2024 Theme: "Safety Leadership For Esg Excellence

This year's theme, "Safety Leadership for ESG Excellence," focusses on the crucial role of leadership in fostering a safety-centric culture within organisations. It emphasises the connection between environmental, social, and governance (ESG) factors and safety practices. By prioritising safety, organisations can not only ensure the well-being of their employees but also contribute towards sustainable development and responsible business practices.

National Safety Day plays a vital role in driving positive change by promoting safety awareness and encouraging responsible practices. As we observe this day, let's all pledge to contribute to a safer and healthier future for ourselves and our communities.
