‘Educational Institutes Should Include HSE as Part of their Curriculum’
Speaking during OSH South India 2018 in Hyderabad, Mr. S.P. Garg, Executive Director – Corporate HSE, Gas Authority of India Ltd stressed the need to have HSE being taught as part of school curricula so that young minds can imbibe best practices in occupational safety and health and practise them as part of their professions in future
Key Excerpts from the speech given by Mr. S.P. Garg
It’s is indeed a pleasure to be part of OSH India. The condition of occupational safety and health in India requires a lot of improvement specially in the unorganised sector. The sector I represent is an organised sector, whereas 90% of people represent the unorganised sector. Lot of efforts have gone into improving the OSH scenario in the organised sector; similar effort needs to go into improving the OSH scenario in the unorganised sector.
Secondly, to bring home this concept of OSH into the minds of people, I had given a suggestion that the school curriculum should have a chapter on health safety and environment, so that the young minds can take it up and throughout their lives they can practise safety in their professions. There are many challenges but the good point is that we are working towards the improvement of HSE be it good technology, good equipment, or good training; in all these areas India is progressing fast and I think similarly lot of initiatives are taking place in the new upcoming economies. OSH India conference and exhibition is playing a good role in spreading awareness on HSE.
